New Chairs

If you wait long enough, sometimes you get the things you want. Today is one of those days.

I jumped so high and smiled so wide at the sight of the sign board in the department store. ¼. “What is that?” you ask. That is the number that I was hoping since a few months ago. Originally there was no sign board, later there was one that read ½ and now ¼. Actually it means a quarter of the original selling price or 75% discount.

From where I come from, such hefty discounts is unheard of. People crash doors and make overnight queues for a discount of just 40%. At the snap of the fingers, I ordered 6 ash wood chairs for the kitchen and another 6 birch wood chairs for the dinning table. I am not impulsive or crazy. Actually I have been eyeing those 2 models for quite some time. Do you know how much I have saved? SGD2674.00 (Euro 1564.00) It feels like winning a lottery.

Best things in life are free

They say it more often than ever: Everything comes with a price tag. Soon we will be charged for the air we breathe. Indeed. So it was with immerse joy that I came across something completely free of charge this morning.

On my way home from the supermarket, I noticed a mulberry (or Blackberry) on the ground. It is just one tiny mulberry. What’s so special about it? But it is strange for it to exist in the middle of nowhere, a rural passage with only speeding cars. There is no bus stop, no habitation, no pedestrian. I stopped my bicycle only to find a whole stretch of hedgerow by the side of the road. I looked closer and yes, they are mulberries alright. WOW. Grown in the wild, nourished by the nature. Just waiting to be picked. I bagged a handful carefully, trying not to be hurt by the thorns. Some of them are real big in size. The ripe ones disintegrated between my fingers. But most of them are just perfect for consumption. Today is the day. I was at the right place at the right time. How fortunate!

I am thankful, so thankful. Such luck doesn’t come by often to me. So, should I go again tomorrow? I need a kilogram of fruit to make mulberry jam.
The mulberries that I've picked today !
